  • 2006-12-13 20:55:27 (jan)
    Update of stable version from 6.2.0 to 6.2.1. This release is solely for stability purposes and adds no new features. Besides bug fixes it also includes a number of new message translations, updates for the help pages, and will better handle errors caused by missing or incorrectly installed support software. It also introduces a new 3D raster module which was left out of the last release due to time constraints.
  • 2006-10-31 22:08:43 (markus)
    This new stable release adds hundreds of new features, support for the latest GIS data formats, and includes new translations for many languages. Details at http://grass.itc.it/announces/announce_grass620.html
  • 2006-09-29 16:18:51 (jan)
    Added development release 6.2.0rc1.

    A new technology preview version 6.1.0 of GRASS GIS is being released today. This feature release adds hundreds of new features as well as support for the latest GIS data formats. The 3D raster (voxel) support has been greatly enhanced. A new graphical GIS manager and menu system has been implemented. The NVIZ visualization tool has been enhanced to display 3D vector data and voxel volumes and supports the creation of on-the-fly MPEG animations. Substantial message translation (i18n) with support for FreeType fonts, including multi-byte Asian characters was added.

    Updated version of GRASS from 5.0.3 to 5.7.0: Major changes (abstracted from the announcement):
     * Geometry management:
       GRASS 5.7.0 comes with a completely overhauled vector engine which is
       extended to manage 2D and 3D topological vector data. Many analysis
       tools ar implemented such as network analysis, overlays etc.

     * Attribute management:
       The new vector engine includes full and flexible integration of
       database management systems (DBMS) for attribute management .

     * User interface: A graphical user interface (GUI) for every module is now
       generated on the fly. Among another enhancements, a completely new
       graphical tool for digitizing has been implemented.

     * Multi-session: Users can now run concurrent GRASS 5.7 sessions.

     * Generating new GRASS LOCATIONs: New LOCATIONs with automatically set
       projection information can be generated by EPSG code number from the
       start-up screen. Within a GRASS session, LOCATIONs can be automatically
       created from existing datasets (raster data as well as vector data).

     * Data Import/Export: GRASS 5.7.0 is integrated with the GDAL/OGR library
       to support an extensive range of raster and vector formats.

     * Enhancements included from 5.3.0: This release bundles the new vector
       capabilities with all the improvements from GRASS 5.3.0. The raster
       capabilities of 5.7.0 are identical with those of 5.3.0.
